Why two ways of getting acupuncture?

We love the standard way of getting acupuncture in the United States—we wouldn’t offer private acupuncture if we didn’t—but we also love a way of getting acupuncture that was developed to be more inclusive. It’s called community acupuncture, and it makes acupuncture accessible to those whom it’s otherwise not accessible to while keeping it accessible to everyone else.

While acupuncture-associated therapies such as cupping (pictured above) are available during a private acupuncture treatment at no additional cost to you, this way of getting acupuncture requires you to be comfortable getting treated by yourself and to have money or insurance that covers the higher cost.

Community acupuncture is community-supported acupuncture: You and the people getting treated with you provide a support network for each other by having a shared but still individual experience—fully clothed and safely distanced in a large, quiet room—while essentially helping each other foot the bill.

Our mission is to enable a wider variety of Central Oregon residents and visitors to experience the health benefits of acupuncture.

By experiencing the Midtown Acupuncture difference, you are also making a difference.

This or That, Acupuncture Edition

  • Solitude or Company

Call us Captain Obvious, but during a private acupuncture treatment you are treated by yourself, and during a community acupuncture treatment you and other people are treated together—fully clothed, of course—in a large, quiet room.

  • Splurge or Save

The cost of a community acupuncture treatment is a fraction of the cost of a private acupuncture treatment because you and the people getting community acupuncture with you essentially help each other foot the bill.

  • All the Fixin's or À La Carte

Acupuncture-associated therapies such as cupping are available during a private acupuncture treatment at no additional cost to you, while a community acupuncture treatment is acupuncture-focused. We also offer standalone cupping treatments and herbal consults.

  • Right in There or Right Elsewhere

If you have back pain that you’d like us to address, we can treat it with acupuncture directly on your back during a private acupuncture treatment but we use other parts of your body to treat it during a community acupuncture treatment. Both ways are right, as both are effective.

Pay as little as $20 for your community acupuncture treatment.

Meet Your Acupuncturist

Eve Harburg (she/her) is a board-certified licensed acupuncturist and doctor of acupuncture and Oriental* medicine.

A native Oregonian, Dr. Eve grew up in the same part of Portland where the community acupuncture movement began in 2002. In fact, it was at the first community acupuncture clinic where she had her first acupuncture treatment!

Time and again, Dr. Eve has shown that no challenge—whether a pandemic, a relocation across state lines, or a flare-up of her own health issues—can keep her from getting back to doing what she loves: helping people feel their best through acupuncture and associated therapies. It’s no wonder that a colleague has called her a “cheerful warrior.”

Combining the empathy nurtured by these health issues with a fierce intellectual curiosity that led her to go the extra mile in her studies and return to school to earn her doctorate, Dr. Eve’s treatment approach helps you feel welcome and at ease.

As she says, “The acupuncture points I choose for your treatment are moot points if you do not feel comfortable in my clinic.”

Outside of the requirements for her degrees, Dr. Eve’s clinical experience spans three clinics in the Willamette Valley and two clinics and a rehabilitation facility in Southern California. It is with humility and gratitude that she brings the best of these varied experiences to you at Midtown Acupuncture.
